We have just returned from a hard morning’s shopping in Bodrum and although trawling through the hustle and bustle of the shopping streets and strolling around the beautiful marina and harbour front are thoroughly enjoyable occupations, by midday on a hot May morning (32 degrees actually!) as we head back home to Yalikavak thoughts are definitely turning to cold beer and warm food in a tranquil setting.
Having holidayed in Yalikavak at least twice a year for the last 7 years (best discovery of our life) we have tried and tested numerous bars and restaurants but today we found a little gem that we have passed on dozens of occasions but never really given much attention to. Maybe the clue’s in the name! “Our Secret Garden” is tucked away along the seafront at Yalikavak over the wooden hump back bridge past the 3 Brothers restaurant and the water sport’s centre but is definitely worth strolling the extra few yards for.
It really is a secret garden and beautiful as well.
There are plenty of tables in sun or shade, comfy sofas and bean bags if you just want to lounge and have a drink whilst relaxing in this tropical oasis, the plants, trees and foliage really are breathtaking and as it’s set slightly back off the main promenade it’s the perfect place to enjoy a couple of hours peace and tranquility looking out over the turquoise Aegean Sea.
They advertise that they do “the best brunch in Yalikavak” and from our experience we can’t dispute their claim – anything from all day breakfasts, omelettes, jacket potatoes, pizzas and a wide range of the usual local Turkish fare are available and all served with a smile.
Definitely on our agenda for a return visit in the evening to try out their dinner menu, and enjoy the gardens by lantern light, it’s taken us a while but we’ve definitely discovered one of Yalikavak’s best kept secrets.”
