Parks in Spain are in a class of their own, always clean, well kept, safe, mostly free and best of all not usually full of teenagers hogging the swings! You’ll find a park or play area in every town or village, however small, along the Costa del Sol so your choices are vast but we have narrowed it down to some of the very best on this stretch of the coast of sun.
Benalmadena: Parque de la Paloma
This huge park is free to enter and has a large lake with wildlife running around all over the park including rabbits, chickens, turtles, peacocks and ducks. There is a great cafe here for the adults to rest at and watch the little ones play to their hearts content. The gardens are beautiful and the cactus gardens are quite spectacular, it’s a great place to have a wander around. The playground is great for kids of all ages but you may find they are more interested in the animals there.
Marbella: Parque de la Constitucion
This beautiful park is right in the centre of Marbella and a lovely oasis of calm compared to the hustle and bustle of the surrounding town. There is a nice, clean play park as well as an observatory for the older kids (and adults) among you. There is also a 600 seat auditorium where cultural events, concerts, shows, operas and plays are performed, a wonderful place for all the family. The gardens are beautifully landscaped so it makes a great getaway from busy Marbella when you need to escape.
Torremolinos: Parque la Bateria
This is another park complete with a lake, a great spot for relaxing on a hot summer’s afternoon or walking around on a cooler winter’s day, you can even hire boats for a row around the lake. The play park here is great and very well kept, perfect for toddlers and teenagers alike. This fab park has only been open since 2007 and has been a real hidden gem in Torremolinos but is becoming more popular these days as more people discover it.
Fuengirola: Parque de la Poniente
This amazing park in Fuengirola is all about the little ones. Designed as a giant pirate’s ship, it is an adventure playground for your adventurous offspring who love the different levels, activities and areas this great park offers. There is a slightly less chaotic baby and toddler area so the tiny family members are kept safe from the hoards of kids that this park attracts. The floor around the giant ship is made of padded blue waves, perfect for those inevitable tumbles and there is a nice cafe here for the parents to enjoy a drink or two.
Malaga: Parque del Oeste
This is quite a new park in the province Capital; it is constantly being updated too so always fresh and well designed. This lovely park is set around an artificial lake where you can take your picnic along and soak up the atmosphere and watch the birds, fish and turtles in the lake. There are sport’s areas for football and basketball and areas for outdoor fitness as well as lots of walking tracks around the park. Our favourite part of this park is the amazing sculptures, 45 in total, which you can find dotted around the park, by the German artist Stefan von Reiswitz.
There is certainly no lack of options when it comes to finding free entertainment for your little ones on the Costa del Sol and happy kids means happy parents and a stress free holiday.
