Do you fancy yourself as the next Nick Faldo, or think you’ve got the same sort of potential as Rory McElroy? Well, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and you won’t get a better chance to prove it than at La Cala Golf Resort. You won’t find better golfing facilities anywhere else in Spain. La Cala Golf Resort on the outskirts of La Cala de Mijas is the Costa del Sol’s largest golf facility. If you’ve got the time to spare from relaxing on your villa holiday, why not take the ultimate challenge and see whether you can beat par on the attractive yet difficult courses of La Cala Golf.
La Cala Golf Resort, in La Cala de Mijas, is the biggest and most-extensive golf complex in Spain. That fact has been confirmed by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation. So if you’re looking for the ultimate golfing holiday, then La Cala Golf is ideal. La Cala has three 18-hole championship courses and a smaller high-quality 6-hole [par 3] course, making it the largest golf resort in the country. It is understandably one of the most popular golf resorts not just in Andalusia, but in all of Spain.
The three 18-hole courses offer different challenges. The North Course is longer than the tight, challenging South Course. The third course, Campo Europa only opened just over a year ago, but has already drawn favourable comments from the top players who regularly play and practice in La Cala.
La Cala North (Par73) and La Cala South (Par71) were both designed by American Architect Cabell B. Robinson, and are complemented superbly by an elegant and comfortably-appointed colonial-style clubhouse, with a David Leadbetter Golf Academy that includes six-hole par-three “executive” course. According to architect Robinson the terrain for the La Cala course made the construction project incredibly challenging, but once you’ve seen the courses, you’ll appreciate that all the effort was definitely worthwhile.
Off the courses, the David Leadbetter Academy has covered and grass driving bays. The par 3 course offers a great opportunity for beginners and experienced players alike to practice while the three professionals can design a teaching plan specially tailored for individual needs. There is also a practice green and a club-fitting service for any important equipment adjustments.
La Cala Resort is an exclusive residential and recreational estate of approximately 1,000 acres (4 million square metres), situated between the Sierra de Mijas Natural Park and the Mediterranean. Although located in a tranquil area, the resort is only 20 minutes from Marbella and 30 minutes from Malaga Airport.
Set in the hills just behind La Cala de Mijas, this is more than just a fine golfing centre: it is a complete resort for the entire family. There are tennis and squash courts and an array of superb sandy beaches in the old fishing pueblo with an abundance of good restaurants and bars.
