Since 2012 Marbella has been hosting one of the most spectacular music events in Marbella’s quarry, a huge natural amphitheatre that has hosted stars from all over the world since being discovered back in 1983 by Placido Domingo. The Starlite Festival has grown the be the event of the summer over the last four years, and now you can enjoy a whole month of musical perfromances, culinary treats, fashion events, film premiers and more. Here is our guide to Starlite Festival 2016.
When and where?
The festival is located in the Auditorio La Cantera, Marbella. This open air auditorium is in a quarry which makes for fantastic acoustics and a breathtaking view of the stars. The festival runs from 14 July to 20 August 2016.
The auditorium opens at 20-:00 each evening and guests have access to the lounge area where you can relax with food and drinks. The concerts start at 22:00 and Starlite Night, the after show nightclub, begins at 00:00.
Line Up 2016
Past years at Starlite have seen artists such as Lenny Kravitz, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, The Beach Boys, Ricky Martin and the Pet Shop Boys take to the stage. 2016 looks like it’s going to be another great year with Robert Plant kicking off the season of concerts on 16 July. Other acts throughout the month are a mixture of Spanish and international big names including Tom Jones, Santana, Il Divo and Jose Luis Perales. For the full line up click here.
Its not just big name bands and singers that get the festival goers dancing. Every night at midnight the quarry turns into a nightclub where DJs play until 6am, so you really can dance until dawn.
What else is there to do?
Starlite also embraces fashion, cinema and art throughout the festival. There are open air film screenings, fashion shows and art exhibitions. Look out for Hollywood stars such as Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas and Wesley Snipes all making appearances over recent years.
For those who love to shop there are stands and boutiques from some of the best worldwide brands and local Marbella enterprises. You can even get a pre-concert massage from one of the beauty therapists at the venue.
There is a large ‘Gourmet Area’ dedicated to making sure that partygoers enjoy top class food and drink. This is a wonderful setting to enjoy an open air dinner surrounded by the mountains. Make sure you arrive early to be able to really take your time and enjoy the experience. There are also several bars serving everything from beer to cocktails.
