Throughout the year there are many festivals that are celebrated, One being the Feast of Nuestra Señora de Gracia (Our Lady of Grace).
The Convent of Nuestra Señora de Gracia is located on Calle Felix Lomas. The convent is also known as Las Claras. The foundation for the convent was laid in 1540 but it wasn’t finished in 1774, making the convent have the style of the late Baroque. The church has a domed ceiling with lunettes.
This is one of Galicia’s (an autonomous community in northwest Spain) most famous pilgrimages. It has been celebrated since the 14th century in the fishing villages and it unites fishermen’s devotion to the Virgin Mary. Before the Festival, the Patroness is taken to the various districts, where neighbours organise street parties with regional dances, religious ceremonies and processions.
On the final day, 15 August, there is a colourful procession. Children and grown-ups alike dress up with traditional costumes. A must to experience local culture.
